Forgivness

Colossians 3:13
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Recently the topic of forgiveness came up at church and I instantly thought “this is an easy one for me, I am an extremely forgiving person” and I truly am, almost to a fault sometimes. I will forgive the same people over and over and continue to get repeatedly get hurt. But what does the bible really say about forgiveness, this is where it got my attention. Do you have to forgive everyone? Some sins against us are so much greater than others so the Bible surely does not mean that you have to forgive everyone right? Wrong! God wants us to forgive everyone. This is where I realized that I may not be as forgiving as I thought I was. There are certain people in my life who have done things that I deemed unforgivable. I am sure that everyone has people like that in their lives and some to greater degrees than others. Forgiveness does not come naturally and this is something that I have struggled with. What I have had to realize is that forgiveness does not mean that you have to let that person back into your life nor does it mean that you have to tell them that you have forgave them. Forgiveness is something that is in your heart that is between you and God. When you are to forgive someone you are to give it over to God, forgive and leave it at the alter.

The Bible instructs us to forgive as the Lord forgave us:

Colossians 3:13
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Luke 6:37
Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

In a perfect world this would be as simple as the sentences written in scripture but in real life it is a constant struggle. God Help Me, I am a total sinner!
