Weekend Wrap-Up

It is hard to believe that we are almost to the end of the school year. Each year they seem to go by faster and faster. This is always such a busy and this weekend was no exception. We had t-ball, closing ceremonies, a birthday party and two pool parties.  The past month has been super busy like this and my poor blog has been very neglected! This weekend I took lots of photos from my iPhone to make it easier for me to get a post up!

Kinley’s Cardboard Ice Cream Shop

Here is Kinley’s fabulous cardboard ice cream shop that she built for her school project. Kinley’s class is creating a town where each child has to build and run their own business. Kinley choose an ice cream shop for her business and she will be selling real ice cream out of it to her classmates next week.

Building this ice cream shop was a family effort but Kinley worked so hard and she did almost all of the painting herself!

Below the  photos is a tutorial on how we built this. The cardboard ice cream shop would be perfect for a birthday party or even a little carnival.
My girls cannot wait for this to come home from school so that they can use it as a playhouse!

I also wanted to thank my Dad for all of his help, he is the master at things like this!

We started with a 36x36x36 box that we purchased from a packaging company.

:: Paint two coats of latex semi glossy paint.

:: Use painters tape to create your stripes.

:: Paint your colored stripes.

:: We used the flaps on the box as the roof and the base.

:: We taped the the flaps at the base to make it sturdy.
:: We cut out the window by cutting the sides and the bottom and then we made a
scalloped awning by tracing around a little bowl and then cutting. We used little pieces of cardboard
on each  side of the awning to hold it up.

::Lift up the top flaps to create your roof and make some cuts from the sides to create a roof.

:: Cut a door in the back. We used a little knob for a doorknob.

:: The Roof – We layered the rood with the scalloped bulletin board boarder.

:: Menu – I bought a plain wood sign at Michael’s and spray painted it with chalk board paint.

This was a ton of fun to make!!!

I love springtime! I love the smell in the air, the blooming flowers, softball season and the sunny days!

Another thing that I love about spring is all of the beautiful birds that are around my house. The other day I took a photo of this sweet bird that was sitting on our roof right above a nest that was built under our gutter.

a Month in Photos | March 2012

When it was not raining we spent the month of March at the softball field.
Kinley and Hadley are on different teams this year so we have been  spending a lot of time at games and practices. Kinley moved up to the Pony Tails League and she is on the Firecrackers. Hadley is still in T-ball and Reggie is coaching team Pink Taffy again. Their cousin Nathan is playing Little League so it is fun when all of the kids have games at the same park.
